Jess and I have been talking that things don’t really ‘feel’ like Christmas around here. We wonder if it is because everyone is growing older and things are just different. Then we put the Christmas tree up and things started to ‘feel’ different.
On Sunday the kids at church shared this song with us (along with Auslan sign) and I really appreciated this verse in particular:
Celebrations come because of something good
Celebrations we love to recall
Mary had a baby boy in Bethleham
The greatest celebration of all.
Even though Christmas has become so commercialised, and there are some Christians who don’t celebrate at all, for our family this verse sums it up: Celebrations are the way we as a family recall the good things that have happened. This Christmas we remember that Jesus came to earth as a baby – fully God, fully man. He came with a plan and purpose. This really is worth celebrating!
So here we are as a family decorating our Christmas tree
Actually before we decorated the tree we ate a finger food dinner while I read a few of our Jesse Tree studies (we are terribly behind!).
Then on Sunday evening we joined in the Community Carols which is run by the Christians in the town. It was a good time to catch up with lots of different people, and to enjoy the Christmas carols.
We certainly have brought out our favourite albums. Here’s the top three we are playing at the moment.
So maybe it is starting to feel like a celebration after all.
